This book, written in English and Russian (and you get BOTH versions with your purchase) is meant for those who consider Russian-American relationship/marriage. It is widely known that most difficulties such marriages struggle with are caused by A) the lady’s misconceptions about America, B) culture shock and being unprepared for it (both on the man’s and the woman’s part). The first edition of this book was titled “Life in America What to Expect. Preparation guide for Russian women considering marriage and relocation to the US.” As you see from this old title, the book is geared primarily towards the Russian women. However, if you are a man who does not yet have a Russian woman in their life, you might benefit from it as well. Call it learning in reverse read the advice given to the ladies and see what YOU will be dealing with when she arrives and tries to adjust to her new life.

This author is really writing this book to the Russian/Ukrainian woman who may be coming to the states and who needs to know what every day life is like in the US. Johnson doesn't pull any punches - her writing is direct, factual, and easy to understand. She covers a lot of ground in a short amount of space (just 50 pages or so). And the book is written in both English and Russian. Her advice on manners, cleanliness, getting around (transportation), meeting in-laws, money matters, and so on, is usually spot on accurate. She does an excellent job of contrasting life in Eastern Europe with life in America and is very direct in warning the ladies about the difficulty of adjusting to the US and how they will undoubtedly miss their former life, friends, and so on. The book is very good, usually serious in tone, and in some cases it is almost humorous to see America through the eyes of this lady who has already made her transiiton in to the US culture. I wish it were a bit longer however, and maybe covered a few more topics. My one criticism is that Johnson makes the assumption that most US men live in rural areas or remote sububan areas and not in one of the US major cities. She virtually ignores life in the city as a topic and I think she could have done more in that area. Otherwise, the book is an easy-to-read gem and an eye opener for the reader.Product details

Wanna Marry a Russian Woman? Have her read this first Lydia Johnson 9781463666392 Books Reviews
I thought that the writer made a decent attempt to portray what a Russian woman might expect in the USA. It was a bit basic and it had some pretty dated information in it.
I think this is one topic that would require several sources of information. I met a woman on the internet from Russia after learning much on my own by trial and error. But I did not give enough thought to what a Russian woman might go through in coming to the USA to live. I have been to Moscow 3 times now and I just love the Russian language and I have met the woman of my dreams I am very fortunate. Any piece of advice that I would offer to a man looking to marry a Russian woman is patience and research.
